Hey, this is Kaidan. I'm trying to start up a community kitchen because I'm tired of eating pancakes every day. [ Laughter behind the screen as he types this. ] And we could all use better meals. Don't get me wrong, the cafeteria does a good job, but... [ Get to the point, Alenko. ]

Point is, if you have meat or vegetables or—God help us—spices, bring them over and I'll cook them for you. I have the equipment and I have water. Made bread and stew as a trial run last night, turned up pretty good.

But it could be better with more ingredients.

I have a pistol that uses 10mm roubds abd a rifle that takes .308.

Yeah, that's borderline ancient in my time. But I know enough to keep an eye out. Maybe team up with someone to make more rounds. Maybe.

Gathered as much in my military history course. How ubiquitous these standards were all over North America and the rest of the world. Which is why I don't think my omni-tool would have too many issues making some. Problem is, as always, the raw materials.

Maybe we'll luck out and salvage some ammo. I've been saving mine at the cost of my biotics. Another reason why I need to start cooking more. [ All this fighting is making him hangry. ]

I'm trying to save ammo, it's hard to come across in the Wasteland, but I need something for close quarters. A ripper or other sort of blade would be useful. I just need to make one.

Don't think any of us can afford to be picky here. But I'll take 'can keep it down' over dextro rations any day. We're not that desperate. [ Yet. ]

Depending on the nature of our arrangement, I can help with that. Convinced to part with one of my omni-tools if the need is pressing enough. It was a built-in blade.

And nothing here can taste as bad as radroach.

Yeah, blades were some of the earliest human weapons for a reason.

Don't know what that is but it has roach in its name so hard pass.

Its what 200 years of nuclear radiation does to cockroach. They've grown to the size of small dogs and are annoying, but easy to kill.

Most roaches are not disease vectors, actually. They get a bad rap thanks to the ones that do carry disease. Still, I'm not a fan of insect chitin. The crunch is...wrong, you know? I don't know.

I'm not the biggest fan of it, but if that's all I can get, that's what I'm eating.

A lot of the stuff in the wasteland will give you rads, no matter where it's from. There's still a lot of radiation in places.

Yeah, I had to code a specific setting in my omni-tool so I'd stop beeping whenever I got near one of you—people from the Wasteland, that is. You all have abnormal radioactive profiles. Not Chernobyl concerning, but still.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do about that. I didn't have any RadAway on me when I got here. Just a couple of Stimpaks, my Pip-Boy, a handful of caps and my guns.

It's about a quarter to half a Gray, which is twenty five to fifty rads. Not a crazy amount, but the sort of exposure I'd have to log. I wouldn't worry about it unless you start experiencing acute radiation syndrome. But I'm sure you all know more about that than I do.

Radsickness is not fun. I dosed myself with enough rads to do it on purpose just once for a friend. Never again. I was down for like a week after, even with the RadAway she gave me.

Yeah, I went on a mission topside to this planet with an atmosphere so thin it took the brunt of its star's radiation. Right at the cusp of 0.7 Gy. Nastiest migraine of my life, lasted about a week too. Never again. Protip: don't take off your helmet outside, not even for a second.

I could hardly move, fever, nausea, all the fun shit.

I honestly don't know how I've managed to stay alive for 4 years outside of the vault so far.

What's a vault? [ Because he's thinking of a bank vault, or the vault of the Citadel Archives where they got trapped. ]

Underground shelters built before the bombs dropped by a company called Vault-Tec.

They were supposed to be safe places for people to wait out the Fallout, but that was a lie. Most were social experiments.
